Getting a good CV for your first job can be very difficult most times, especially if you have no previous working experience or in few cases no degree certificate yet.
But not to worry, this guide will help you develop an eye-catching and as professional as can be CV.
WHAT IS A CURRICULUM VITA (CV)
A curriculum vita is a document that introduces you, your skills, accomplishments and qualifications towards a specific role. It can be required in grants, job interviews/openings, scholarships, even volunteering opportunities.
Still confused about the difference between a Curriculum Vita and a Resume? NB: A CV and a résumé is the same thing but please know that in some countries like United States of America, a CV is meant to give a full account of all your qualifications while a resume is allowed to simply state relevant qualifications for the job as described. Ever heard the saying: ‘There is no second chance for a first impression’? A perfect example of a first impression is your CV.
Just like you would introduce yourself with confidence, so must your CV.
Your CV is the first thing that tells your potential employer what you are and what you are capable of bringing to the table.
Remember there is no one size fits all kind of CV, but for a first CV, this guide will be very helpful:

A CV must consist of the following:
Full name: This should be your name as stated in your academic certificates. No extras please!!
Contact details: That’s a modified way of saying, “i know you like me, you can reach me through: mobile number, email address, LinkedIn profile (optional), and if you still cant reach me, kukuma come to my house: house address”.
Career objective: Most times called a personal statement, this should emphasis on your professional goals and how your skills can help grow the organization. This is one place you must sell your skills, being brief and concise. Brief here should be nothing less than 4 lines and nothing more than 8 lines.
Working experience: You might not have being opportune to work at a proper job, but working experiences can vary from helping startups, to volunteering for small events within your community, even for campus fellowships as long as you can tailor them to the job position you are vying for.
Academic qualifications: You must only add tertiary certificates except you’ve not yet earned a degree certificate, only then is your SSCE necessary. Besides that, your SSCE and FSLC does not deserve a place in your CV. Always remember to add date and honors.
Skills: As simple as the ability to avoid a quarrel, that’s a soft CV skill known as “good interpersonal relationship skills”. So please don’t go thinking very far. And please don’t lie, if you have just basic skills in Microsoft office tools, indicate your skills as basic and shine the light on your ability to learn quickly. And throw more emphasis on your good skills using numbers to indicate how much you can do with your skills.
Personal details: For a general CV, this might not be necessary, this is only necessary when it has been asked for in job requirements like state of origin, age, sex etc
Honors and awards (optional): Any honors, awards or certifications that you’ve earned over them and that will be useful in the job position must be added.
Interest: Instead of hobbies, this would be a good way to describe all of the things you enjoy doing, please avoid instances like watching movies. And if you have to say reading, you should indicate what category of books you enjoy reading.
A reference is not necessary unless it has been requested.
